Happy Hour at Carpool on June 11 + Updates
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Instead of last year’s speaker dinner, we’ve organized a happy hour/blogger meet-up for the night of June 11th at CarPool in Arlington, VA from 6-8. Register here.
Carpool is right by the Balston and Virginia Square metros in Arlington, VA:
4000 Fairfax Dr
Arlington, VA 22203
(703) 532-7665
Jen McClure, executive director of the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR), will provide remarks at the Happy Hour to kick our unconference off. Jen is uniquely positioned to start our discussion. SNCR is a global nonprofit 501(c)(3) think tank dedicated to the advanced study of the latest developments in new media and communications, and their effect on traditional media and business models, professional communications, culture and society. The Society creates a bridge between the academic community and practitioners using these news tools and technologies.
Additionally, a few more updates for our event. Because Social Karaoke is the final session, we will be opening the bar up before the 6th session instead of the 7th. We figured a little extra social lubricant may be needed for some folks.
Also, we will have much more broadband behind our WiFi this year with FiOS service this year. That means for throughput we will have 5 MBPs collectively on the up-link side, and 20 MBPS down. However, we still anticipate difficulties with WiFi, so if you have a broadband card, please bring it.
There will be a surprise announcement at the event relating to future BlogPotomac events. Stay tuned.
Finally, a BlogPotomac 2009 Flickr Group has been created. If you are a photoblogger, please join! You can also follow BlogPotomac on Twitter @blogpotomac and our event hashtag is #blogpotomac.
We look forward to seeing you soon, and expect another update next week on dress, T-shirts and food at the event.
